Home For Now

I'm sprung, at least for a while. My amniotic fluid seems to be increasing a little bit, and there is now a new theory about what may have happened.

My placenta isn't a perfect disc shape - it has a comet tail that wraps around towards the back. It looks like the tail may have separated a bit, which led to some bleeding. That blood formed the giant clot, which passed through the cervix - taking with it the chorionic fluid.

Yep, there is also the lesser-considered second sac of fluid around the amniotic sac. The second sac has it's own thin layer of fluid. It's not something that usually ruptures, but it can happen. And it is just a theory - my amniotic fluid measurements are low, but they were never huge anyway. As long as the baby seems to be doing well we are going to just hope for the best.

Meanwhile, I am exhausted. A hospital is no place for sleep, what with the IV fluids being changed at all hours and the monitors going off for the tiniest reasons. I had to have the IV in the back of my hand since it was so freezing when we got there that all my other veins were shrunken. My fingers are now stiff and swollen and my hand is giant and sore. I can't really type with only one good hand, but I just wanted to post an update.

Tomorrow: why to pack a "just in case" bag, even if you think you have lots of time left...

You poor thing, ye with the giant hand. Talk about adding salt to the wound. But I'm very glad that they seem to have identified the issue and that baby boy and you are OK for now. Rest up and take it easy!

Whew, glad you are home and able to get some rest now!! and I am with you....have the bag packed, who knows when a normal appt turns into 12 hours at the hospital LOL. Now I take the bag to the OB appts, anywhere, it is just in the car. I don't want to have to go home or send J. for it.
Let's you and I keep these babies warm for a while longer :)

SO RELIEVED to hear you are home and there is at least some explanation for what happened.

You're one tough cookie, and I'm thinking about you and hoping that is the last unanticipated trip to the hospital you make.

I'm so relieved to hear from you. I've been wondering and hoping that all is ok.... I hope you are able to get some rest and that you have some eventfulness for a while! Hugs!

Eeek! I haven't been around so didn't know about your drama. Glad to hear things are looking good now. Phew!

Ha ha ha . . . a 'just in case' bag for the hospital? I didn't even do it at full term. You know, because I wouldn't be going to a hospital. Guess who ended up at the hospital with only a long dress not fit for going out in public in?

Oh, did something similar when Ernest was born, now that I think of it.

I never heard of the chorionic sac. Hm...learn something new every day. I am so glad you are home, recovering, resting and that all seems to be well. Put some warm compresses on your poor swollen hand to help recirculate all the fluids. And we'll hope your next trip to the hospital isn't for 9 or 10 weeks!

How scary! I am so happy you are back at home now. Will be thinking of you and keeping my fingers crossed that your next hospital visit is quite a ways away...

Glad you are back home. Next time if they can't find a decent vein, ask them if you can run your arm under hot water for a few minutes. The veins will pop back up.

Keeping you in my thoughts! I am so glad that things seem to be in place for now and I hope for a lot more cooking time for the little one. Take it easy and best wishes!

sorry to hear about your hospital experience, i was there for five days last month so you have my empathy! i'm glad to hear your fluid is looking better too. i'm with you on the overnight bag, i didn't bring anything when i went into the hospital and i really wanted a few things, like clean underwear for example! luckily my husband brought me a bunch of stuff, but he had to leave me to go get it which i hated! good luck with the bedrest, it is boring me to tears but i feel pretty crappy most of the time anyways so i don't have the energy to do things even when i want to. we are in the process of packing up our house and moving as well so it's definitely hard not to be able to do anything.
