Chill, Baby

Two of my embryos made it to freeze. I have to say, it never occurred to me that I would have anything left over.

I'm also not sure how I feel about it - two lesser-quality embryos sitting there, waiting. If this cycle doesn't work, I would prefer to do another (pre-paid) fresh one than rely on two slow-poke leftovers. I'll have to go back and read my plan to see if I am required to use the frozens first. If so, I am screwed out of another fresh cycle, since my plan runs out in September.

But, at the same time, in researching CGH I learned all too well that the best-looking embryos are not always the normal ones. In fact, it seems more often than not that the normals are the medium=good ones. Of course, there are a million reasons that this is not statistically reliable outside of that particular testing. For one thing, many people who choose CGH already have a history of abnormalities.

I would have loved to know for sure that I had a genetically normal embryo. And if I go through this again, I may opt for the testing after all. But there seems to be a lot of stress attached to the process, in terms of the additional wait, the high instance of "no result" reports, surviving the thaw, worrying about mosaicism. We decided to just cross our fingers and hope for the best - not very scientific, but since I still have to worry about whatever it is that happened in my last second trimester, we figured we'd save the money for all the fancy specialists that our insurance won't completely cover.

For now I know that if I DO get pregnant, I am going to do amnio as soon as possible. Once upon a time I was so low-intervention that I didn't even take tylenol unless something drastic happened. Now, just get me as much information as possible. If things go awry, I want answers.

In the meanwhile, I'll be traveling at the end of the week, so I'll have to bring my pee-sticks with me. Do you think anyone has ever POAS in one of those little airplane bathrooms?

I am behind in my reading, but great news! As for the mini-bathroom, where there's a will, there's a way. Good luck!!!!!!!

Well, don't worry about the two "lesser quality" frozen embies right now. Hopefully you have a perfect little baby developing inside you. Would you really pee on a stick in an airplane?! Oh my gosh, I mean, you'd open that itty-bitty door and come out of there either looking gloriously stoned out of your mind with joy....or on the verge of tears. And stuck on an airplane either way! But what a place to find out - in the clouds! Take care of yourself and go slowly!

I'm betting that more than a few airplane bathrooms have seen pee sticks. There are a lot of us crazies out there. I did one at work one time, but nothing stranger than that. I'd love to have back just half of the money that I've spent on pee sticks in the last 4 years!

Thinking of you every day...

congratulations!!!! that's very exciting, i never had anything to freeze so while i understand your hesitation about them, the fact that they exist feels like a victory of sorts.

and yes i'm sure many a pee stick has been activated at 30,000 feet. it would make for a good story to tell the little one some day :)

Good Luck sweetie... all things crossed for you here!!!

Hooray for frozens! Like you said, just because they're not completely the best looking doesn't always mean diddly.
Happy traveling--just be sure not to jump up and down to hard in the little bathroom when you see that second line :)

Congrats on the totcicles! This is quite the cycle you have going on!

I'm hoping for low turbulence and double lines on your flight. (-;

It is so hard to know what to do. For what it's worth, the frozen embryo that worked for us was 4th best. We put the top three in with the fresh and got one baby.

Of course, with a little luck, at least one of the three best will stick.

I had never even heard of CGH until people started suggesting we do it in their comments with the last miscarriage. I don't even think my center does it, since it's not in the information. Is it like PGD, kind of a biopsy of some sort?

Of course I am no poster girl for success, but from what my RE said, those guys who made it to a 5 day freeze might be better than the ones they put back in day 3. Apparently that little embryo that just bit the dust with me, was top notch looking. However, like you said I guess looks can be deceptive.

My center made me use the Frozen before starting a fresh cycle because we are in that IVF Success or Refund Program. I tried, but they insisted.

Best of luck to you!
